Due to challenging Arctic operating conditions, sensitive environments, stringent regulatory requirements, and an active stakeholder community, British Petroleum Exploration (Alaska), Inc. (BPXA) needed to develop and maintain world-class oil spill prevention and response plans for operations in Alaska.
Assisting the Crisis Management Team at BP, OASIS reviewed existing Oil Discharge Prevention and Contingency Plans (ODPCP) for several BP assets on the North Slope, Alaska. Combining knowledge of regulatory requirements and facility operations, as well as relationships with emergency planning and response organizations, the ODPCP for each facility was updated for approval by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and other stakeholder agencies. Draft plans were written to include scenarios for oil spills, response equipment and clean-up resources, as well as an analysis of best available technology for preventing oil releases to the environment.
Comprehensive plans were developed that passed public and regulatory scrutiny, giving assurance that prevention and response capabilities are in place to respond to a variety of oil spill emergencies, ranging from well blowouts to storage tank failures.
